Concussion Management

Concussion Management

  • Clinical Interview – The clinical interview is an integral aspect of concussion and brain injury management. It gives our doctors a chance to understand the person behind the injury. Our clinical interview focuses on the patient’s injury as well as their medical, psychological educational, developmental, and social history. Research consistently demonstrates that these aspects of a person are very important factors in their recovery from brain injury and can often be overlooked in concussion treatment.
  • Physical Exam – Balance and exertion testing
  • Cognitive Exam – The cognitive examination is a vital part of concussion management and return to play/work decisions. It allows out doctors to directly test how the brain has recovered and determine if a person is back to their cognitive baseline. Cognition (memory, processing speed, reaction time, visual scanning) can sometimes be impaired even if a person is feeling 100% better physically.
